Route change for Seattle To Portland

This year’s Seattle to Portland bicycle ride – put on by Cascade Bicycle Club – is just around the corner. I’ve mentioned a couple of times how much I love this ride, and I’m really excited to be going back again. This year, however, will have a slightly different route this year.

They’ve just announced via email to registered riders that this years route will not take you through US Military property at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

We have a new route through Joint Base Lewis-McChord. From mile 55-67 you will be cruising on low traffic roads.

We will have a private STP rider only entrance onto the base and it will be manned by military guards. Be prepared to slow down and be checked for an official rider bib. This is the only form of entry accepted and unregistered riders will not be allowed access through this gate. You should always ride with a form of identification, but especially on this day.

NO personal support vehicles will be allowed through this gate, please make plans to meet your parties elsewhere. There is no public access to our food stop within the base and an additional checkpoint once you are on base.

Remember, no bib, no entry. You will be directed to follow Hwy 507 if you do not have an official registration.

So while May is Bike Month may have temporarily derailed my training plans (…stupid team riding challenges… playing off my competitive nature and making me ride all month long, ignoring rest days…) there are few things that can keep me from riding this event again in July.
