Sacramento to Portland – via Seattle

There are now only about six weeks remaining until the group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic.  My wife Melissa and I will be doing the double century in two days.  This is actually a ride I’ve been waiting to do for quite some time.

Running through the list of things to take aside from the normal spare tubes and CO2 cartridges,  I’m finding it a little challenging to balance that “be very prepared” with the “keep it light.”

Here’s what I’ve got so far:

Must Haves:

  • Rain poncho (you never know)
  • Chamois Cream
  • Cliff bars.  Lots and lots of Cliff bars
  • Sun screen (hopefully this will actually be required)
  • Beer money (this is mostly as a thank you to the friends letting us crash at their house at the end of the first day)

Stuff I’m thinking about but haven’t decided on yet:

  • Spare tire (not unreasonable to carry a folding tire)
  • Spare spokes (feels like overkill)

Of course I’ll post all the details after I complete the ride.  Until then…
